Solo una questione di Luce. L'Italia e il fascino delle Fiandre tra Quattro e Cinquecento
The exhibition presents a carefully selected group of works by Italian artists inspired by Flemish painting from the period bridging the 15th and 16th centuries: Donato de’ Bardi’s ‘Presentation of Christ at the Temple’, a pivotal work of Italian painting from the first half of the 1400s; a magnificent ‘Resurrection of Christ’ by Bergognone, last shown to the public in 1998; two recently discovered panels by the Lombard artist Zanetto Bugatto depicting Saints Peter and Paul, and finally, ‘The Four Doctors of the Church’ by Antonio da Viterbo, formerly in the collection of the Drago princes in Rome. Completing the exhibition are three miniatures in tempera and gold on parchment attributed to the Master of Salomon Wildenstein.
Curated by Mauro Natale, the exhibition also represents the journey necessary to discover the way of art and beauty. “What would we not do for art! Will this obsession ever end, with always contemplating newly discovered works in order to understand their secrets?” – asks Gian Enzo Sperone, in his introduction to the exhibition catalogue.
